Keynote Address by Paul Cromwell
| Paul Cromwell is Professor of Criminal Justice and Director of the School of Community Affairs at Wichita State University. He received his Ph.D. in Criminology from Florida State University in 1986. He also holds a B.S. and M.A. in Sociology from Sam Houston State University in Texas, and a Master of Public Administration from Texas Christian University. He has previously taught at the University of Texas-Permian Basin and the University of Miami. Dr. Cromwell has extensive experience in the criminal justice system, including service as an United States Probation and Parole Officer, Chief Juvenile Probation Officer and as Commissioner and Chairman of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. His primary research interest is in criminal decision making and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design-a crime prevention methodology which stresses the manipulation of the physical environment (land use, roads, building design) to reduce opportunities for criminal activity. Dr. Cromwell is author and editor of 16 books and 35 articles and book chapters in the field of criminal justice and criminology, including Community Based Corrections, 5th Ed. (Wadsworth, 2001), Breaking and Entering: An Ethnographic Analysis of Burglary (Sage, 1991, 2nd ed. in press), In Their Own Words: Criminals on Crime (Roxbury, 1996, 3rd Ed., 2002) and Crime and Justice in America (Prentice-Hall, 1997, 2nd Ed., 2000). In 2000, he received the University's Academy for Effective Teaching Award. |
